Overview

Cyclamen persicum Purple are hardy herbaceous perennials that flower in the latter part of the year and last through until next spring, sporting attractive deciduous foliage alongside their large colourful blooms. More commonly seen as an indoor plant variety, these plants provide some much needed colour into the home to brighten your day during the darker winter months. Cyclamen persicum begins developing attractive heart-shaped leaves with a dark-green shade, coupled with an intriguing splash of shimmering silver dotted on the top of the leaves for a marbled effect. When it comes to flowering, the long upright stems bloom and tower above the foliage, providing a fantastic colourful contrast to the leaves, these blooms will also begin to give off a delightfully sweet fragrance. These plants are winter flowering and their foliage is deciduous, so as the temperature rises this plant will die off and become dormant during summer. Once dormancy occurs, this plant can be stored outside before being brought back inside when the frosts begin, ready to provide those attractive blooms for the following winter. The key to longevity for this plant is to neither overwater or underwater it, wait until the soil is dry to the touch before providing it with more water, but just enough to keep the soil moist, waterlogging this plant will cause the tuber to rot. A good practice is standing the plant pot in water, allow the plant to soak up as much as it needs, then allow it to drain away the excess before placing it on a tray. Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot. Characteristics: Hardy herbaceous perennial, develops large flowers that last from winter until the following spring, these are bursting with colour and develop a delightful perfume-like fragrance. The deciduous foliage is patterned with green and silver markings, contrasting well with the flowers that bloom above. Supplied in 12cm pot. Growth & Spread: Grows to around 0.5m tall, spreads to roughly 0.5m wide. Period of Interest: Flowers last from winter until spring, foliage appears just before in autumn and will stay right through spring until summer, where it will become dormant due to the rise in temperature. Water & Maintenance: Water only when the soil is dry to the touch, keeping the soil moist without over-watering will be more that sufficient.
